This award, introduced in 2012, celebrates the best media portrayals and reporting of farming issues across broadcast, print and digital media to a non-farming audience. It is open only to those who are not currently members of the Guild to encompass journalists, broadcasters and professional communicators whose work is read primarily outside the agricultural industry.
Guild members nominate the person (or team) who they believe has done most to enhance public understanding of agriculture in the previous 12 months; the winner is be selected from the nominees.
Don Gomery, who had a long and successful career in agricultural journalism and communications, was the Guild’s honorary general secretary for over 25 years until his death in 2010. He also represented the Guild at the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ) and was secretary to the Trustees of the Guild’s Charitable Trust.
