Winners

2006

Philip Clarke, Europe Editor of Farmers Weekly, won the 2006 'Open Book' Award sponsored by Merial. He will use the £1500 grant to visit Washington and farms in the United States to find out more about the potential impact of the next US Farm Bill.

2005

Freelance Nancy Nicolson won this year's Merial 'Open Book' award. She will use the cash prize to study Brazil's beef industry, looking at the scale and production methods used, including breeds, feeding, abattoirs, packing plants. Bill Butterworth’s proposed study earned him the runner-up prize.

The winner of the 2004 Merial Open Book award was Rachael Porter, who went to the US to investigate calf rearing.
