Entries are invited for the Guild Award from the Institution of Agricultural Engineers

Deadline Star

A £1000 prize fund for the best articles or broadcasts highlighting the vital role of engineering in modern food and energy production is on offer from The Institution of Agricultural Engineers, the professional body for engineers, scientists, technologists and managers in the land based sector.

The Guild's IAgrE Award is open to articles or broadcasts covering topics in the agriculture, horticulture, forestry, amenity and environment sectors written by Members of the Guild. They are each limited to one entry reporting on engineering - in all its forms - published between March 1, 2016 and February 28, 2017.

The sucessful entrants will receive their prizes - £750 to the winner and £250 to the runner-up plus a commemorative plaque for each - at the Guild’s Bangers'n'Beer reception at the end of the first day of the Cereals Event on June 14.

BGAJ/IAgrE - Mike DonovanLast year, the award judges appointed by the Guild and IAgrE selected as the winner Mike Donovan's entry describing an autonomous tractor. Published in Mike's own magazine Practical Farm Ideas, the article described how driverless tractors operate and the potential advantages they offer.

Mike is pictured far right receiving his prize from IAgrE Chief Executive Alastair Taylor.

Freelance Louise Impey received the runner-up prize for her in-depth article on precision farming and how it is being used to good effect on UK farms. It was published in Crops magazine.

Both articles can be read here.
