Cheese & Wine, 2017

A superb selection of English cheese and wine was on offer at the inaugural BGAJ reception at the 2017 Grassland & Muck event, held at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, on 24-25 May.

Kindly sponsored by NFU Mutual and organised by BGAJ Council Member and Grassland & Muck PR officer Olivia Cooper, the reception attracted a host of Guild Members and Friends.

Attendees included journalists, PR consultants and photographers – as well as one visitor from the Netherlands.

“We wanted to source as much English produce as possible, and the quality of the food and drink really shone through,” says Olivia.

Red, white and rose wines were provided at a special rate by Pebblebed Vineyards in Devon, with soft drinks also sourced locally.

Cheese included Cornish Yarg, Blacksticks Blue, Somerset brie, West Country cheddar, Sharpham Rustic, Rosary Goat, and Colston Bassett stilton.

Even the biscuits, celery, chutney and butter were English.

NFU Mutual rural affairs specialist Tim Price (pictured below) , gave a speech on the Mutual’s rural crime campaign and Farm Safety Week.

This triggering a lively discussion among those present about the best ways to get farm safety messages across.

“We are very grateful to NFU Mutual for their sponsorship, as well as to the Grassland & Muck Event for offering to host this reception following the demise of the Livestock Event, at which it was previously held,” says Olivia.

Gertjan Zevenbergen, managing editor of AgriMedia in the Netherlands enjoyed his visit to both the reception and the Grassland & Muck event.

“If you want to know everything about grassland management and machinery, this is the place to do it,” he said.
