Editorial campaign award for Farmers Guardian

Published on 27th June 2011

Farmers Guardian has won the prestigious Editorial Campaign of the Year Award from the PPA for its campaign 'Backing Britain’s Professional Farmers'.

The campaign saw Farmers Guardian supporting British farmers in their battle to stave off proposed rules from the Veterinary Medicines Directorate could have severely limited farmers’ access to information on animal health and disease.

PPA 2011 Emma Penny FG"We beat off stiff competition from Marie Claire, Retail Week, Property Week and Country Living who were shortlisted, so we're delighted to have won such a prestigious award," says Guild member and Farmers Guardian editor, Emma Penny, pictured receiving the award. “It's fantastic to see that our success has been recognised outside the farming industry.”

The award judges praised the campaign, saying the weekly newspaper ‘fought for its readers’ and ‘took up the challenge’ to campaign on an issue many already thought was a lost cause.

They said: “This was a successful campaign that fought for its readers and was a battle that would have gone un-fought without them. It was a topic that was unlikely to inflame public passion, so all enthusiasm had to come from the publication.”

The PPA awards are among the most coveted in the magazine industry; they ‘showcasing excellence, rewarding innovation, and providing the benchmark by which the UK magazine industry judges itself’.

Farmers Guardian won the same award in 2008 for its campaign 'Fair Trade for British Farmers'.
