G’day, mate! Former Farmers Weekly machinery writer Graham Fuller fully embraced the life ‘down under’ after moving to Australia several years ago. He branched out into political and other news while maintaining his coverage of farm machinery and tractor developments, but earlier this year decided retire and take things a bit easier.
“In the course of his career, Graham produced millions of words, cracked two countries, travelled the world, won several awards and became the doyen of machinery writers,” says his former colleague Paul Crisford. “When he came over to see his Mum recently, we met up and he was in fine form.”
Graham has kept in touch with his old muckers back home over the years and on one occasion turned up for a private visit to the Silsoe Research Institute to discover several past colleagues attending a media briefing on new spraying equipment. It was a remarkable coincidence that led to a lively reunion dinner at The Farmers Club a few days later.
More recently, having slowed to a three day week, working from home for an Australian title while also contributing a column to Profi International, he saw the appeal of spending more time relaxing with his family instead of chasing the latest in mechanisation gadgetry. And why not!
The experiences he enjoyed (or endured) and the early lessons in journalism he learned during a career that took in countless visits to farms, tractor factories and test facilities are described in Graham’s inimitable style in his signing-off article for the Queensland Farmer.
