The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) presented Guild member Theresa Eveson with a limited edition bronze sheep statuette earlier this year as a ‘thank you’ for donating an eye-catching image to use on the RABI’s 2011 Christmas card.

The card, showing two Blackie ewes in the snow, was the RABI’s best ever for sales; almost 4000 packs were sold after the card was reprinted several times, earning £14,000 for the charity organisation that helps people involved in farming and their dependents at time of need.

Theresa is picture editor at Farmers Guardian and one of several Guild member photographers who regularly donate images for the RABI’s annual Farming in Focus calendar. She received her ‘RABI sheep’ from Norman Lawson, Cheshire RABI committee chairman during farmhouse breakfast week.

Fellow Guild member Danusia Osiowy (pictured far right with RABI West regional officer Georgina Lamb), has also been doing good work for the organisation. Farmers Guardian’s features editor helped organise a highly successful Gala Evening of entertainment – see report here – which together with the sale of FG tee shirts at the Young Farmers Clubs’ national convention last year raised £10,000 for RABI.

Her efforts were recognised when Danusia was presented with the RABI Cup. This is awarded for a campaign or activity that has raised the profile and awareness of RABI to a wider audience – something that the event and seven weeks’ coverage in Farmers Guardian certainly achieved.

Danusia received the trophy (right) at the organisation’s annual meeting from Neil Parish, MP.

Midlands RABI officer Millie Wastie, a Friend of the Guild, has been busy receiving cheque donations for RABI from NFU and YFC functions in the region and agricultural public relations company ABC donated a cheque instead of sending out Christmas cards to clients.

ABC also supports the Guild’s Charitable Trust by handling the distribution of fund-raising Christmas cards.
