James Marshall, winner of the Guild’s John Deere Training Award in 2014, and Reverberate PR’s newly-appointed account executive, has joined the Guild.

Although originally employed as a marketing specialist in the publishing industry, James possesses a long-standing interest in farming and has written extensively about the agricultural industry on a freelance basis.

Since winning the ‘best student’ award from the Guild’s annual new entrants’ training scheme for an article examining the government’s approach to tackling African swine fever, James applied for and secured his current position with Devon-based specialist agriculture and food communications agency, Reverberate PR, which is headed by Guild member Philip Gibson.

“I have always enjoyed writing and been interested in the agricultural industry,” says James. “To get the opportunity to combine these two elements and work for a local agricultural PR company is fantastic!

“I will work across Reverberate’s wide range of clients and undertake a variety of communications tasks; from assisting in the composition of newsletters and website content, to helping organise client attendance at agricultural shows and compiling farm testimonials.”

With Reverberate’s clients including individual farm businesses, retailers and large-scale manufacturers, James will gain an insight into all aspects of the agricultural and food production industry.

“I am most looking forward to getting out of the office and visiting some of our client’s producers,” he says. “As someone who has an interest in all areas of the agricultural industry, I think it will be fascinating to witness different approaches to food production and meet a variety of interesting people.”

James lives in rural Somerset and when not working, enjoys walking on the Exmoor hills, playing rugby, reading and tending to his garden.
