Joe laid up after crash

Published on 4th July 2011

Joe WatsonGuild members will be concerned to hear that Joe Watson, farming editor of the Press & Journal, is flat on his back in ward 46 of the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after a car accident at the weekend.

It seems a vehicle pulled out in front of him as he made his way to report from the Fettercairn Show, and Joe’s car ended up in a field badly damaged.

Having complained of a sore back, it seems our Scottish friend and colleague actually has a crushed vertebra. He has little choice but will doubtless find it difficult to comply with his consultant’s advice to have a period of bed rest!

Joe would no doubt welcome the occasional visitor to help wile away the hours. But as numbers are strictly limited to just two at a time, anyone contemplating a visit would do well to contact Joe’s Mum (01888 563601) to arrange a slot during the infirmary’s 2pm-4pm and 7pm-8pm visiting hours.

Update: Joe reports by email from his hospital bed that he not only has fractured and crushed vertebrae but suffered a collapse due to a blood clot blocking several arteries in his lungs when he was put on his feet with a back brace. “Life full of challenges,” he emails. “Lying flat in bed and on oxgen 24/7 since collapse. Time will be the healer.” Take it easy, Joe.
