As a pig farmer’s daughter who is married to a beef and sheep farmer, new Guild member Hannah Lloyd is fully aware of the highs and lows of the agricultural industry.

It should stand her in good stead as she progresses a career in agricultural marketing and communications, first with supply companies and now with the Pinstone Communications agency run by fellow Guild member Catherine Linch.

“My first job in the industry following university was with a manufacturer of ruminant health and nutritional supplements where I was sales and marketing coordinator,” she says. “I then progressed to a livestock identification company where I organised and carried out all marketing and PR, whilst also finding time to be on the road embracing sales and the agricultural shows.”

This activity helped Hannah make some great friends and build contacts in the industry beyond those she has made as an active member of Shropshire Young Farmers.

“When I then had with the opportunity to develop my PR and marketing skills at a dedicated full service PR and marketing agency, I jumped at the chance,” says Hannah. “Pinstone Communications is specifically aimed at the agricultural industry, and since starting in October 2012, I’ve thrown myself into the account manager role, where I’m already learning a lot of new skills across a truly varied selection of clients.

“I look forward to being a member of the Guild,” she add, “and the opportunities and friendships within the industry I hope it will offer me.”

Hannah has already taken up one great opportunity, having been selected to co-produce short video interviews of farmers due to speak at the 2013 Oxford Farming Conference – see separate story.
