New Guild member Ian Marshall, having reached retirement age, recently left ACP Publishers Ltd, the publisher of the magazines Farm Contractor & Large Scale Farmer and Amenity Machinery Equipment (AME).

He now intends to combine enjoying his free time with freelance work, to keep up to date with developments in agricultural machinery and to keep in contact with all the friends he has made within the industry.

“In a 39-year career in agricultural journalism, I’ve been fortunate to work on all the major UK farm machinery magazines,” he says.

Ian’s career began after two spells at the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester – the 1970/72 NDA course and 1974 Advanced Farm Management Course – and working on arable and mixed farms in Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Surrey.

He joined Power Farming magazine in 1976 as a trainee journalist and went on to become editor in 1980s. He also worked in PR before joining ACP Publishers in the mid-1990s.

Ian adds: “I intend to spend my free time playing more golf and tennis, and learning how to play Petanque (all fair weather only!). I also want to indulge my passion for cryptic crosswords and reading, and improve my cooking skills.”
