Professional communications specialist Judith O’Leary has more than over 20 years’ experience working on some major consumer brands, including Kleenex, ASDA, Microsoft, ScottishPower and Tennents Taverns. But her farming roots and passion for land-based industry has brought her into the realms of agricultural corporate press and public relations – and membership of the Guild.

“As a farmer’s daughter I feel very comfortable working in the agri-business industry,” says Judith as she comments on her decision to join the Guild. “Having being involved in many sectors, I believe this one has succeeded over all others in delivering a greater understanding of its role in modern life to a diverse and complex audience.”

Judith set up her own agency in 2001 and in 2005 merged it with Guild Netherthorpe award-winner Ross Muir to launch O’Leary RM Public Relations. Based in Fife, the agency handles PR for The Royal Highland & Agricultural Society of Scotland, The Royal Highland Show, Simpsons Malt, the sustainable energy business Eneco and the Hopetoun stately home near Edinburgh, as well as the Glasgow retail destination, Silverburn.

“From technical advancement, delivering food literacy programmes, embracing renewables and diversification – I struggle to think of any industry other than agri-business that has demonstrated such drive to grasp the nettle,” she adds. “This is the biggest opportunity for communicators – to continue to showcase excellence, ambition and a commitment to delivering a lasting legacy.

“I very much look forward to being a member of the Guild and working with those who are committed to championing this great industry,” she concludes.
