So keen was new Guild member Olivia Midgley to get her career as a journalist underway that she spent years nagging the news editor of her local paper, the Spenborough Guardian, to publish her stories.

She went on to earn a degree in journalism from Sheffield and then, after a four-year stint in local newspapers, joined Farmers Guardianin March 2011.

“Growing up on my parents’ smallholding near Leeds has stood me in good stead for my role at FG, although I’m learning new farming practices and breeds of sheep every day,” Olivia. “My new role as renewables editor has also meant I’ve had to get to grips with this fast-changing industry in super-quick time.”

On top of this, Olivia has made what she describes as a life-changing move to the capital, and is now a fully-fledged Londoner, defying death on public transport every day.

She has already started making good use of her Guild membership by attending the Under 35s video workshop staged at The Farmers Club.

“My colleagues are all members of the Guild,” says Olivia. “I hope to benefit from other members’ expertise and hope to make some more good friends along the way.”
