A new Member with national radio production and broadcasting experience has joined the Guild following her appointment as an account manager at RDP Advertising & Marketing.

Sarah Tempest first became involved in agriculture when she worked on BBC Radio 4’s Farming Today programme, where she was later promoted to lead the team as it reported on the BSE Inquiry and the Foot and Mouth disease crisis.

She also advised producers from The Archers on agriculture storylines and made award-winning programmes for BBC Radio 4’s Food Programme.

“I started my journalism career in BBC local radio when I was 18 years old and continued working as a freelance while sitting my undergraduate degree at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies, University Of London,” recalls Sarah. “I went on to complete a post graduate Diploma in Broadcast Journalism and joined BBC network radio.”

Sarah held various roles in news and current affairs and factual programmes, including The World Tonight and You and Yourson BBC Radio 4 and Adrian ChilesSunday with Mair and Late Night Currie on BBC Radio 5 Live.

In the communications sector she also has experience of data visualisation with Information is Beautiful Studio.

Sarah has now joined RDP, the Gloucestershire-based full service agricultural communications agency specialising in the agribusiness sector, working alongside fellow Members of the Guild managing director Angus Chalmers, and PR/media managers Sarah Carter and Angharad Evans.

“I grew up in the countryside and have returned to rural life since having a family,” Sarah says. “The importance of food, farming and the environment has always been a passion.

“In my spare time, I like being outside, listening to music, enjoying good food and wine, and spending time with friends and my two young children.”
