Options open for Lord Mayor's Show

Published on 7th March 2011

The London spectacular of the Lord Mayor's Show always includes a high-profile illustration of modern agriculture these days and Guild management Council member, Howard Venters, reminds members who work with major agricultural suppliers that there are opportunities to be involved in the capital city parade.

As a liveryman with the Worshipful Company of Woolmen, Howard is a member of the organising committee for the Woolmen’s participation in this year’s show - which will be held on Saturday, November 12.  The livery company's involvement will be a spectacle in support of wool – sheep, of course, sheep dogs, carpets, knitting and wool products. In 2005, a book of wool-themed nursery rhymes, including Little Bo Peep, pictured below, featured in the Woolmen's participation.

WoolmenEric Wilson, a supporter of the Guild and next year’s Master of the Woolmen says: "This will be a good year for the Woolmen’s livery company to be involved in the Lord Mayor’s Show as it coincides nicely with the Campaign for Wool initiated by HRH The Prince of Wales.”

Alsop, there are firm hopes that BBC’s Countryfile programme will cover the Woolmen’s involvement in the Lord Mayor's Show.

The cost of entering and preparing floats are covered by sponsorship; there are still one or two opportunities and the Woolmen are allocated 50 places for people to ride the floats or walk beside them. Another one or two sponsors are being sought, who must be committed to the UK agricultural livestock sector.

“Shepherd Publishing is pleased to be associated with such an historical and traditional event as a sponsor," says Howard. "It is a fantastic opportunity for any other companies who are supportive of the industry, as well as the Guild, Livery companies and other worthwhile and associated organisations to be involved."
