Peter Allen, who was a staff photographer on Farmers Weekly, died on October 12 after a short illness. He was due to start chemotherapy but was admitted to hospital with pneumonia; he was 66.

Peter Allen worked for the magazine from 1982 to 1989, replacing Peter Adams who moved to Farming News. He was one of four full-time photographers on the Farmers Weekly picture desk in an era that included (at various times) Charlie Topham, Keith Huggett, Andy Burridge, Steve Michael and Barry Wyles.

He is pictured below, second from right, flanked by Steve Michael (left) and Barry Wyles, with Andy Burridge far left at the 1987 Royal Show with the tools of their trade.

After leaving Farmers Weekly, he set up a very successful business in the Portobello Road in London selling vintage cameras and teaching people how to use what were often very complex pieces of equipment.

Peter is survived by his wife Sandy (nee O’Callaghan), who worked on the Farmers Weekly news desk and then Farmlife from 1983 to 1986. They have two children, Seb and Zoe.
