New Guild member Sophie Wilesmith has joined Pinstone Communications from an agri-food marketing background, having gained a strong grounding in the sector with Herefordshire-based soft fruit and fruit juice processing business, Pixley Berries.

Supported by an English literature degree and a Professional Chartered Institute of Marketing qualification, she is excited about the opportunities in agri-PR at the agency run by fellow Guild member Catherine Linch.

“Working in all areas of marketing management for a rural SME, from supply chain to driving all marketing and PR, has given me a good grasp of the ‘ins and outs’ of a successful agricultural business,” comments Sophie. “This is something I plan to emulate for Pinstone’s clients; when I saw the job advertised I jumped at the chance to apply.

“Writing is an aspect of the role that I have always wanted to develop,” Sophie adds. “Doing so on behalf of agricultural and horticultural clients for the farming media means I can pursue an industry I want to support.”

Yet writing is only one aspect of the role, she emphasises. Pinstone Communications covers a broad spectrum of PR and marketing approaches targeted at the agricultural industry.

“I’m getting stuck into the account manager role, broadening my knowledge of the wider industry, learning and utilising new skills for a varied selection of clients,” explains Sophie. “I’m looking forward to being a member of the Guild, to improve my skills, keep learning about the industry, and develop relationships within it.”
