Guild member Leo Townsend has joined Whisper, the agricultural communications agency run by fellow members Ruth Jewkes and Adrian Bell, as an account manager.
After two successful years working for the in-house communications team at HGCA, Leo will now manage a number of accounts for Whisper. His client work will focus on arable crops but will also cover other parts of the agricultural industry.
Leo is looking forward to what he will learn in the new role: “Working for an agency will take my skills to the next level,” he says. “Making sure all my work fits with the different aims and style of each client will sharpen my writing skills and give me the opportunity to see the pros and cons of different communications methods.
“Arable is an important part of the post, so I’m glad to offer the knowledge and experience I got from my previous employer to the new team,” he adds. “But the chance to work with other types of agricultural companies is also appealing as I will learn a lot about different sectors.”
Leo also brings language skills to Whisper, which are very important now that so many agricultural companies operate transnationally.
“A big draw for me was that Whisper does some work internationally,” explains Leo. “I speak Russian and Spanish reasonably well but have never been called on to speak these languages in a business setting so it’s fair to say I’m excited but also a little nervous about getting the opportunity to use them.”
Whisper director Adrian Bell is pleased to add Leo to the team: “He’s joining at an important time for Whisper, as we’re not only increasing our work with a number of long-established clients but also winning new business. With that growth comes a duty of care to maintain and improve the quality of service we provide to all of our clients. Leo’s experience, skills and background bring added value to our team.”
