New Guild member Jeremy Hobson is a professional freelance writer and author living in the Western Loire area of France.
It’s clear from the titles of his books, which include Rural Living in France, A Practical Guide to Modern Gamekeeping and several joint-author books on cooking game, where his professional and leisure interests lie.
“Whether I’m writing books or magazine articles, my subject matter generally appertains to all aspects of rural living and farming, both in the UK and in my adopted home country,” says Jeremy. “But it can be quite diverse – my current work includes columns in Countryman’s Weekly and French Property News.”
Jeremy is also a regular contributor to Your Chickens and a member of the magazine’s ‘Ask the Experts’ panel.
“Previously, I’ve been part of a regular writing team for Farmer’s Weekly, Smallholder, Fancy Fowl, Shooting Times, Countrysport and Gamekeeper & Countryside,” says Jeremy. “And I’ve had commissioned features published in The Field, Scottish Field, Country Life, Country Smallholding, Horse & Hound andShooting & Conservation, as well as the Scottish Opera and several regional newspapers.”
The subjects of his books (authored as J C Jeremy Hobson) are many and varied; ranging from dogs to chickens, hunting to shooting, and from smallholding ventures to country cookery. According to independent reviews, Jeremy writes “with great knowledge and wit – he certainly provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and information” and “passes on his enthusiasm for any given subject with apparent ease.”
Another review said; “It is rare that you get an author who has long-standing experience and the ability to make the subject interesting. Some people can write, some can do the job, but few can do both as well as Jeremy Hobson.”
