Two members of the Guild specialise in communications – but in very different areas of the agricultural industry.

PR specialist and freelance writer Lucy de la Pasture studied at Wye College in Kent before training as an agronomist. She lived and worked in Herefordshire advising on arable and vegetable crops, with a special interest in potatoes.

“While working in agronomy I began to freelance for Crops magazine and continued to do that for several years before my own farming and equestrian interests took over my life completely,” says Lucy. “Building up a commercial flock of ewes was both challenging and rewarding – but a great way of brushing up my livestock knowledge.”

In October 2008, Lucy joined Herefordshire based Pinstone Communications run by fellow Guild member Catherine Linch.

“I particularly enjoy using my technical experience to develop story angles without being over commercial – always a difficult balance in PR,” she says.

Vicky Brewin is marketing and communications co-ordinator for England at Lantra, the training organisation. She joined the head office team at Stoneleigh in January 2007.

“My role encompasses developing marketing and communications materials for Lantra’s 17 industries across England,” she explains. “This involves promoting a number of projects, including the £16 million LandSkills programme, part of the Rural Development Programme for England.”

Part of her day-to-day duties include writing press releases and editorial on Lantra’s work across England for trade and regional press, organising media calls and photography, and stands at trade events. Developing literature, preparing case studies, maintaining pages of the Lantra website and updating the LandSkills Twitter account are also part of this busy role.

Before joining Lantra Vicky achieved a 2:1 BA Hons degree in Marketing & Media at De Montfort University, Leicester, and then worked at CV One as the PR officer promoting Coventry and Warwickshire as a place to visit and do business.

In August last year she achieved the Chartered Institute of Marketing Postgraduate Diploma.

Contact details for both Lucy and Vicky have been published in a recent eAlert and they will be included in the next Guild Year Book
