Farmers Guardian editor Olivia Midgely has won the New Editor Award at the 2024 British Society of Magazine Editors Awards.

Olivia, who became editor of FG in March 2023, received the award at a BSME’s annual awards ceremony, which recognises editorial excellence and innovation across digital and print publications in the UK.

The judges commended Olivia for her ‘transformative impact’ on FG’s brand through innovative initiatives, as well as her strategic vision that made the magazine her own.

Under her leadership, the publication has continued to evolve while staying true to its roots, they added.

The award comes as Farmers Guardian celebrates its 180th anniversary this year. The FG team marked the milestone by launching a full colour glossy cover, positioning the publication within the glossy magazine sector while maintaining its commitment to delivering quality content.

In addition to the print publication, readers also have access to digital offerings including FG Insight reports, market hubs, podcasts, webinars, and access to breaking news and expert industry opinions.

“It’s an honour to receive this award,” said Olivia, who is also deputy chairman of the British Guild of Agricultural Journalists.

“Our team’s passion and dedication to serving the farming community is at the heart of everything we do.

“We look forward to continuing to innovate and support our readers with valuable insights and information.”
