Guild member Philip Case, deputy news editor on Farmers Weekly, has been chosen to participate in a three-day agricultural study visit to Brussels in September.
Arranged by the European Network of Agricultural Journalists (ENAJ), the visit includes discussions with farming experts from DG Agri (the EU agricultural directorate), a meeting with fellow Guild member Roger Waite, spokesman for EU Commissioner Dacian Ciolos, and visits to a farm and a major milk processor in Belgium.
“It’s a great opportunity for me to meet Belgian dairy farmers and producers to share ideas about innovation in the workplace and observe first-hand the environmental issues and regulations they are facing,” says Philip. “I’m also looking forward to discussing the upcoming reform of the CAP after 2013 and how it will affect British farmers, especially the future implications for agri-environment schemes under Pillar 2.”
Philip will be covering the tour on his Twitter account (#PhilipCaseFW) and compiling news stories, features and videos for publication in Farmers Weekly and its website FWi.co.uk.
Details of this opportunity for personal development, networking and news gathering for U35 members of the Guild was flagged up in the July eAlert.
“The event should provide an insight into the workings of the European Commission’s agriculture directorate and how its press team operates, while also covering topics of current interest,” says Adrian Bell, Guild chairman and ENAJ representative. “I hope Philip fnds it informative and enjoyable, and I look forward to hearing how he gets on.”
