There may still be more than 250 shopping days to Christmas but the Guild management council is already considering plans for a new event to celebrate the festive season.

“The Harvest Service held at St Brides Church in Fleet Street, London is so popular and so well supported that I thought how nice it would be to have an early evening Christmas Carol service for members, family, friends and colleagues,” says Howard Venters. “I’d really like to know what other Guild members think of the idea and whether they would come to such an event.”

Howard’s Shepherd Publishing business is the generous sponsor of the professional choir that performs so beautifully at the Harvest Lunch; he has offered to do the same for a Christmas Carol service.

“We also have in mind an informal reception at one of the livery halls after the service to enjoy mulled wine, mince pies, background music and the ‘festive spirit’, he says. “I think it would be a lovely way to get Christmas celebrations underway.”

St Brides Church, pictured below during the 2011 Harvest Service, is enthusiastic about the idea and has set a provisional date of Thursday, December 13. So that interest in the idea can be gauged, Howard asks Guild Members and Friends likely to attend the event to send him an email.
