Guild member Rachel Queenborough has been appointed editor of the regular newsletter published by IFAJ, the international farm journalists’ organisation.

Rachel will be responsible for collating and editing copy from the 29 member countries and publishing an electronic version of the newsletter.

Guild members can read IFAJ News on the organisation’s website or by registering on the website to receive it direct by email as soon as it is published.

“The IFAJ is an active community of people specialising in agricultural communications in all its forms,” says Rachel. “It provides international networking opportunities, a forum for exchanging ideas and best-practice in agricultural journalism and a source of industry contacts in different countries.”

The newsletter has an important role in connecting individual members by carrying news of the diverse range of activities undertaken by the press clubs, associations and Guilds that represent agricultural editors, journalists, photographers and professional communicators around the around the World.

“It also carries information on opportunities for personal professional development and, of course, the growing number of international writing, broadcasting and photographic competitions that Guild members can enter,” adds Rachel.

As part of her new role, Rachel will be attending the IFAJ’s Congress in Belgium this year. Next year, Canada hosts this annual event, then Sweden. In 2013, Argentina will be the host country.

Former IFAJ News editor, Australian journalist Liz Harfull, who met a number of Guild members at the 2009 Royal Show awards party, is now running the IFAJ’s new broadcast journalism award.
