70th Annual General Meeting
Launch of the IFAJ Congress 2014
Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 10.30hrs
- Programme and speaker unveiled
- Elections to Council (nominations invited)
- Voting on new structure, constitution and byelaws for the Guild
- 2014 Congress launched to industry
In recent years the annual meeting of the Guild has been held in the Midlands, but this year it makes a return to the capital in style, where it will be combined with the launch to sponsors and industry of the British Guild’s plans for the IFAJ 2014 World Congress, Innovations from a Small Island.
Thanks to generous sponsorship from Massey Ferguson, the event will be held at the Tower of London, with free access to all that this remarkable venue has to offer.
The annual meeting contains a number of particularly important topics, including resolutions on a new constitution, new byelaws and a proposal to adopt a formal footing for the Guild by becoming a company limited by guarantee.
Further details on these important issues will be circulated to Members ahead of the meeting.
As ever, Council has also provided Members and Friends with a superb incentive to attend the annual meeting, with a marvellous copy opportunity. Our star guest is George Freeman MP, Government Life Science Adviser and Chairman of the all-party parliamentary group on Science and Technology in Agriculture. He will speak on The Appliance of UK Agri and Food Science – giving members a sneak preview of the Government’s forthcoming agritech strategy and the role it can play in fostering economic recovery.
At 12.30hrs, the Guild will launch its campaign for Innovations from a Small Island, the IFAJ Congress 2014, which will attract 200 rural journalists, broadcasters and and professional communicators from around the World to learn about farming and rural enterprise in Britain.
The Congress launch will raise awareness of the event amongst potential sponsors and industry influencers.
Guild Members and Friends are very welcome to attend the Congress launch but owing to capacity restrictions, places will be on a strictly first-come, first-served basis.
Members and Friends who would like to attend either the annual meeting and/or the IFAJ Congress 2014 launch should inform Nikki Robertson, Guild secretary, as soon as possible. They will be sent details of the booking process, which will open on Tuesday, February 26.
