Do you want to be a spokesperson for your industry?
The BGAJ is teaming up with JustFarmers.org to try and raise the profile of farming in the mainstream press and is seeking journalists who are keen to represent the industry.
Informally, the guild has already had success in working together, with members Olivia Midgley and Ben Briggs being featured in BBC television and radio news programmes on a range of farming topics.
Applicants are sought from all over the UK and across the full range of agricultural and horticultural sectors, as well as people who have experience in key issues like agri-politics, the environment and economics.
Unfortunately, given the need for spokespeople to be absolutely independent, we cannot accept applicants who have any commercial ties, which precludes PR and marketing practitioners.
Journalists – whether staff or freelance – and editors would be ideal. Successful candidates will be given formal media training by Anna Jones of Just Farmers, the cost of which will be covered by the guild.
Their contact details will then be made available to mainstream media who are signed up to the Just Farmers portal, and may be approached by journalists looking for industry comment or even assistance with their farming stories.
Please apply by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org with your contact details, CV, and why you would like to be considered by 15 December.
