Guild Members are invited to apply to attend a budget-friendly media trip to experience agriculture in south-east Romania early this summer.

The Agricultural Press Association in Romania (APAR) has announced dates and details to host its first visit in association with the European Network of Agricultural Journalists (ENAJ).

Focusing on the south-east region of Romania, and the well-known Danube Delta, the trip will take place between 19-25 June 2017 inclusive.

The main activities will take place over five days between 20-24 June.

“It’s a busy programme, but we promise that after this experience, you’ll love Romania – and its agriculture,” says Nicoleta Dragomir, APAR chairwoman.

Bucharest’s Otopeni airport is well-served by international flights.

Arriving on the first day, delegates will be free to explore the capital city during the day before the evening welcome dinner.

Visits scheduled for the tour include:

  • the Bucharest Agricultural and Veterinary University
  • a leading Holstein cattle breeder
  • a cruise along the Danube Delta, featuring presentations on Romanian agriculture, rural tourism and environmental conservation
  • Black Sea fisheries
  • wine production
  • orchard fruit farms
  • local firms producing traditional Romanian food products.

The full programme is available here.

In total, 25 places are available on the trip, with each European guild of agricultural journalists asked to nominate one member.

Interested Members of the British Guild of Agricultural Journalists can apply to attend the trip by emailing Adrian Bell at adrian.bell@agromavens.com.

When applying, it would be useful to detail your reasons for wanting to visit Romania and the journalistic output you hope to get from the trip, including any media outlets for your work.

The successful candidate will be asked to pay a €50 registration fee and their own flights. All other trip costs will be covered by the Romanian guild.

Closing date for nominations is 25 March.
