Just two weeks remain until the application deadline for one of ten $10,000 food and farming journalism fellowships in the USA.
Offered by the University of California, Berkeley, the Food and Farming Fellowships could provide one or more Guild Members with a valuable opportunity to hone and showcase their skills, raising their profile with a landmark food and farming story.
Aimed at early and mid-career journalists – and open to print and audio journalists alike – the programme is overseen by well-known food journalist and journalism professor Michael Pollan.
It presents an opportunity to report ambitious, long-form stories on issues ranging from practical application of agriculture at farm level, through food science and industry, to policy-making and global trade.
Although the Fellowship gives preference to US-focused stories, applications are open to international journalists as well as US residents. International stories with a strong US angle or connection will be considered.
The 2017 cohort of fellows will begin their course with a summer workshop at Berkeley, where Michael Pollan and guest editors from national publications will help refine story pitches and develop a reporting or broadcast strategy.
Reporting and writing will take place between June and November, followed by a second four-day session in December 2017, when stories will be workshopped and edited, ready for placement in publications or for broadcast.
Travel and lodging for both sessions is covered by the Fellowship.
