New Member: Michael Wale

Published on 30th January 2016

Brought up on a farm near West Hoathly, Sussex, Michael Wale, a new freelance Member of the Guild, has always remained interested in agriculture and the countryside despite many years living and working in London as a journalist and TV and radio presenter.

As well as having a successful career in sports journalism, Michael has written about many environmental issues, and has contributed to publications including Farm BusinessHome Farmer and Natural Products. In summer 2015, he wrote two major pieces for The Times agricultural insert.

“I now live in West London and describe myself as an Inner City Farmer,” says Michael.

As an ‘allotment activist’ he successfully fought to save some allotments he helped run in West London and now runs the allotment holder's association there. He tells the story in his book View From a Shed and another book just finished sets out to show how small farmers can feed the world.

In his spare time, Michael enjoys rowing as a cox on the River Thames with Quintin Boat Club, based at University of Westminster Boathouse, close to Chiswick Bridge in West London.
