Stephen Hall, a freelance contributor on pig topics to Lewis Business Media, has joined the Guild.

“I have spent my entire working life thus far in the British pig industry, beginning as a 16 year-old school leaver in my home county of Suffolk,” he says.

“I have enjoyed every step of the way through 48 years that have included farm work, the challenges of breeding, selling and supporting, first genetics and then performance analysis software, and more recently going solo as a production adviser and freelance journalist.”

Writing on technical matters, commentary and analysis is a fresh dimension in which he is able to combine professional and personal interests.

“I enjoy writing and have published a short technical book on pig production, and also a full length novel that has nothing to do with pigs,” he explains. “I am also an illustrator, currently finishing a ‘companion alphabet’ for the young and old.”

Stephen describes himself as passionate about helping the pig industry meet the ever-changing demands of the world in which we live, particularly in production efficiency, sustainability and appeal, and has been successful in advocating the development of process controls to achieve this ambition.

“I continue to be inspired by people of every generation in the industry and beyond,” he says. “As a result, I am privileged to work in an environment that enables me to ‘keep going until I am gone’.”
