Guild members have until Friday, August 20, to enter the Red Tractor Assurance Public Engagement Award – and a chance to win a share of the £1,500 prize pot.

The award celebrates articles and broadcasts featuring farmers who go above and beyond the call of duty to tell the story of UK food production.

Judges are looking for stories that highlight farmers who realise how important it is for consumers to understand where their food comes from and take the opportunity to get the message across. Examples include articles about farmers who have opened their farms to the public, created a direct sales channel, or used technology to tell their traceability story. But ultimately any article or broadcast can be entered so long as it is about producers who have made special efforts to communicate farming’s great stories to consumers. A runner up will receive £500 with the winner taking home the £1,000 jackpot. Stories published from 20 September 2020 are eligible.

Last year’s winner was Farmers Weekly Executive Editor, Phil Clarke, with broadcast journalist Anna Jones in second place. Tips on putting together a top entry are available here.

To enter, send a high resolution PDF of the print article, a link to an article published online or a link to the broadcast you wish the judges to watch or listen to. Entries should be sent to Olivia Midgley and should include details of where and when the piece was published or broadcast.

Red Tractor was established in 2000 and has grown to become the UK’s biggest farm and food standards scheme, covering animal welfare, food safety, traceability and environmental protection. The Red Tractor logo appears on around £14bn of food and drink and is the most trusted scheme by shoppers. It is a not-for-profit company, run by the food industry to promote clearer labelling and ensure food is traceable, safe and farmed with care.
