Bob Carruth's running wine challenge!

Published on 20th August 2012

Bob CarruthGuild member and NFU Scotland spin doctor (aka communications director) Bob Carruth faces having a literal spinning head on September 8, when, along with several friends, he takes part in the Marathon du Medoc, which takes place in the Bordeaux region of France.

As noted in The Scottish Farmer, for his first marathon, Bob has picked a true endurance event: The 26-mile route navigates through 23 leading vineyards where tasting is encouraged. To secure the winner’s medal, participants must complete the course in six-and-a-half hours – this is roughly equivalent to running a mile and having a glass of wine every 15 minutes!

Bob says certain aspects of the training have been going well – and the group expects to look out their running shoes any day now!

More importantly, the group is running on behalf of St Vincent’s Hospice, a Renfrewshire provider of specialist palliative care. To encourage donations, Bob is willing to provide an incentive – every donation will be entered in a free prize draw for a bottle of Highland Park; a leg of Specially Selected Scotch Lamb; a box of home-produced vegetables including potatoes, cabbage, carrots, peas, courgettes and beetroot.

To support Bob's efforts and have the chance of winning a prize go to the Just Giving website.
