Milly Wastie, who has joined the Guild as a Friend, hit the headlines in January with an unexpected win at the Oxford Farming Conference debate. Sporting a Union Flag dress, which raised a cheer, she helped convince the audience as motion seconder that the British farming industry could thrive outside the European Union.
Debating skills aside, Milly is also an accomplished regional officer for the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) in the East Midlands and serves as senior vice-chairwoman on the council of the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (NFYFC).
She has also chaired the NFYFC’s agriculture and rural affairs committee and its East Midlands area, as well as representing Northamptonshire clubs on the NFYFC council.
“I’ve also been elected to represent YFC members across Europe as the ‘promotion of agriculture’ representative for CEJA, the European Council of Young Farmers, which feeds into the office of the EU’s agriculture directorate,” says Milly.
It seems remarkable, then, that she has any spare time to enjoy horse riding, showing cattle and cooking. Milly has completed a BA (Hons) in Business & Management and among her ambitions is a wish to have her own radio show or to present on TV.
