Freelance machinery journalist Geoff Ashcroft has become a Member of the Guild, bringing a wealth of knowledge gleaned from more than 27 years of industry experience.

Based in Carterton, Oxfordshire, Geoff started his agricultural journalism career with the monthly Farm Contractor magazine in 1989 and moved to Farmers Weekly as deputy machinery editor before going freelance in 1998.

His technical know-how and interest in all aspects of machinery and technology sees him regularly provide news and features for many leading titles, including Farmers Guardianprofi InternationalPro Operator and Arable Farming.

His interest in machinery also crosses into the construction and plant hire sectors, with EarthmoversWorld Highways and CPN running his feature articles. He also provides a supporting PR role for machinery brands Kverneland and Vicon under his Media Mechanics banner.

Geoff carries out his own photography, and is a CAA-approved and fully insured operator of a camera drone, which he uses for commercial photography and video productions to support his written work. He has recently completed a variety of promotional machinery videos for manufacturers, hirers and farming companies.

Away from the office, Geoff competes at UK and European tractor pulling events with the Clarke Pulling Team, and can often be found under the bonnet or behind the wheel of the team’s two 4500hp Case-IH tractors!

When not tinkering with high performance tractors, he enjoys a more sedate pace at track days with his TVR sports car….
