Journalists who have written stories showcasing the vital role of engineering in modern food and energy production are being invited to enter the Guild's IAgrE Award, which carries a £1,500 prize pot.
The Guild's IAgrE Award is generously sponsored by the Institution of Agricultural Engineers – the professional body for engineers, scientists, technologists and managers in the land-based sector.
Now in its eighth year, the award is open to articles or broadcasts by Guild members covering topics in the agriculture, horticulture, forestry, amenity or rural environment sectors.
IAgrE chief executive Charles Nicklin, said: “The awards are an opportunity for IAgrE to support the agricultural industry and build relationships with journalists. It also helps us to increase awareness of the Institution and supports our aim to promote professionalism in the development and application of technology in the land-based sector."
Entries are limited to one per member reporting on engineering – in all its forms – published between March 1, 2020 and February 28, 2021.
The overall winner will receive a commemorative plaque and £1,000. The runner-up will receive a commemorative plaque and £500 Awards will be presented at the Guild’s Harvest Festival event in October.
The 2020 IAgrE Award winners were honoured at a virtual harvest festival and cheese and wine tasting event.
Freelance machinery journalist Peter Hill won the top prize for a feature about an intelligent sprayer which targets individual weeds, published in Future Farming.
Runner up was Farmers Weekly machinery editor Oli Mark, for a piece detailing how advanced 3D printing can be used cost effectively at the farm level.
