Clemmie Gleeson has won the 2021 Red Tractor Public Engagement Award, with Hannah Binns from Farmers Guardian taking second place.

The award, now in its sixth year, celebrates the work of journalists, broadcasters and podcasters who go above and beyond the call of duty to tell the story of UK food production.

Clemmie’s feature, written for Farmers Guardian, was selected as the winner for being a “very approachable” article with “easy pointers on how farmers can engage with the public using social media”.

Clemmie joined PR agency Reverberate earlier this year following many years as a freelance journalist. Her award was accepted by Reverberate’s Fiona Carruthers on her behalf, and presented by Red Tractor’s vice chairman Andrew Blenkiron at GAJ’s harvest festival in London on 7 October.

The top prize was £1,000 with £500 going to the runner-up.

Judges said Hannah wrote a “great report on the use of engaging crowd funders to assist in getting a business off the ground.”
