The 2005 John Deere training award was presented to Jonathan Sandall following the annual course to encourage new entrants into agricultural journalism.

Jonathan was awarded with his certificate by Steve Mitchell of ASM PR.

Geared towards people with little or no experience of journalism, the course involves classroom lectures followed by placements with publications and other media outlets involved in agriculture.

The course is one of the most successful run by the Guild.

Many course graduates go on to carve successful careers in agricultural journalism and communications.

Past students include many prominent journalists and editors within the sector.

A special commendation award in 2005 went to James Andrews – who subsequently went on to work for Farmers Weekly as a journalist specialising in agricultural machinery.
