Tickets are now available for the 2019 Agri Hacks Burns Supper, to be held on Saturday, 26 January, at the Ballathie House Hotel, Stanley, near Perth.

Organised by the Scottish committee of the British Guild of Agricultural Journalists, this event has been greatly enjoyed by those who have attended over the past two years.

Eddie Gillanders, of the Scottish committee, says: “We look forward to welcoming a large company of Guild members and guests to the supper to pay tribute to Scotland’s national bard Robert Burns.”

The evening will be chaired and compered by Provost of Aberdeenshire Bill Howatson.

Retired grain merchant and renowned after-dinner speaker Jim Brown has kindly agreed to propose the Immortal Memory.

The Toast to the Lasses will be proposed by Ross Muir and Judith O’Leary will reply, which promises some entertaining banter.

Ken Fletcher will address the haggis and his partner, Fiona Sloan, will entertain those present with some Burns’ songs.

With generous sponsorship from ABP Perth, QMS and NFU Mutual, the committee has managed to keep the cost down to the same as last year – which works out at £99 per person.

This includes a pre-dinner drinks reception, four-course dinner – including drink for the toast – and bed and breakfast on a shared room basis in the hotel.

Tickets are also available at £45 per person for the dinner only if you don’t wish to stay overnight.

For the younger fraternity, the hotel has kindly agreed to offer a £79 per person rate on a shared room basis for dinner and bed and breakfast in the adjoining Sportsman’s Lodge.

In addition, for those who may want to make a weekend of it, the hotel is offering a special rate of £45 per person sharing for bed and breakfast on the Friday night (25 January) or £37.50 per person sharing in the Sportsman’s Lodge.

A supplement of £25 will apply for single occupancy both in the main hotel and the lodge.

Please book directly with the hotel on 01250 883268 for both the dinner and accommodation if required, quoting Gill2601 to ensure you get the negotiated rates.

The hotel website is at www.ballathiehousehotel.com.

Eddie says: “Although I will be keeping in close touch with the hotel, please  advise me with the names of your party (for the table plan) and also if any members of your party have any special dietary requirements.

“I hope you can join us for what I am sure will be another fun night and look forward to hearing from you.”
