The agricultural consultancy run by Sara Studden, a new Friend of the Guild, focuses mainly on soils, NVZ and Cross Compliance, waste recycling, and management advice and consultancy, but also covers a number of other areas including agronomy, livestock consultancy and farm business advice.
But Sara is also known throughout Cornwall as a presenter of The Farming Show, a weekly radio broadcast for all things agriculture that goes out every Sunday morning from 7am on Pirate 2 DAB and as a podcast at the radio station’s website.
“The show includes the latest farming news, a look at the long range weather and interviews on the hot topics of the farming world with local farmers and well-known names in the industry,” says Sara. “Recent topics include farm business diversification, the milk price situation – discussed with a number of different stakeholders, local YFC activities, farm business tenancies and, of course, coverage from the Royal Cornwall Show.”
Sara also writes a blog for the site each week and more recently has been engaged to write a variety of other blogs as well as articles on technical topics for Crop Production Magazine (CPM) and National Farmer, and she is keen to expand this work further.
Having dairy, beef and sheep farming roots, Sara graduated from Harper Adams University as a mature student in 2010, completed a year with the Kingshay consultancy and then spent some time managing a dairy heifer rearing unit.
She then undertook an MSc in Sustainable Agriculture, also at Harper Adams University, focusing on soil management, remediation and nutrients; she graduated in 2012.
“After that I worked within the waste recycling industry, concentrating on improving the technical and soil nutrient considerations as well as providing consultancy and advice, planning crop rotations and nutrient management plans,” says Sara. “I then started my own business S.L AgriConsultancy in June 2014, providing a range of agronomy and advisory services in agriculture.”
Walking the spectacular Cornish coast, off-roading and horse riding take up much of her spare time, as well as watching rugby and Formula One.
