The British Guild of Agricultural Journalists is delighted to announce that ABP UK are the new sponsor of the BGAJ Agricultural Journalism Awards.
Held for many years, the Guild’s Agricultural Journalism Awards recognise the best in British agricultural journalism – both written and broadcast. The judging panel for these awards comprises leading industry figures and previous winners, with winners announced at the Guild’s most prestigious event, the annual Harvest Lunch each autumn.
Divided into three categories: Arable; Grassland and Livestock; and Environment and Rural Affairs, ABP will be generously funding a £1950 prize fund for this year’s awards with £500 for each winner of the three categories and £150 for each runner up in the three categories.
As an added bonus for the winners and runners up, ABP will also invite them to a celebratory lunch at ABP’s Demonstration Farm for an immersive meat experience with the team’s Master Butcher, Dave Smith and ABP’s chef.

Phil Hambling, ABP’s Director of Agriculture
Part of the ABP Food Group, ABP UK specialises in the supply and development of award-winning British and Irish beef and lamb products for retail, foodservice and wholesale.
The Demonstration farm has a superb kitchen and dining area, as well as being the location for research on genetic expression, feed efficiency, performance and emissions. Its cattle handling facilities are designed by Temple Grandin.
Phil Hambling, ABP’s Director of Agriculture said: “The community of agricultural journalists and communicators is an often-hidden part of our sector and their role in communicating what’s important to farmers and growers is crucial.
“Our team at ABP has immense respect for the work that they all do and it’s a great privilege to sponsor the awards and to recognise the best of broadcast and print journalism.
“We look forward to joining everyone at the October Harvest Lunch, when the awards will be presented, and welcoming winners and runners up to a celebratory lunch with us thereafter.”
New Guild Awards’ secretary Mike Abram said: “The Guild is delighted to secure sponsorship for the Agricultural Journalism Awards, which are extremely important to Guild members.
“Winning a prize in these awards is seen by journalists as tremendous recognition of the hard work that goes into crafting well-researched and written agricultural stories, and most of all ones that have helped or resonated with farmers and the wider industry.
“We are extremely grateful that ABP has decided to sponsor the awards and look forward to our winners and runners up enjoying a celebratory lunch with ABP, in addition to receiving the applause of their peers at the Harvest Lunch.”
The 2025 BGAJ Agricultural Journalism Awards sponsored by ABP will open for entries in the next few weeks.
