Guild members can look forward to plenty of opportunities to showcase their work this year, thanks to an extensive BGAJ awards programme.
Unveiling this year’s programme at the Guild AGM in Stamford, Lincolnshire, on 28 March, awards secretary Olivia Midgely said the BGAJ was hugely grateful of the generous sponsorship supporting the outstanding work of many members.
The IAGRE award, which showcase engineering in farming, food and energy production, will be the first to open for entries in the coming weeks. Previous winners of the award, which is facilitated by IAGRE’s Charlie Nicklin and Marion King, include Farmers Weekly’s Oli Mark and freelancer Jane Carley.
Following this, the Perkins Power on the Farm Award will celebrate innovation and farm POWER in all its forms.
“The Power on the Farm award really is a highlight of the calendar, and we thank Perkins for putting on what is always an incredible and truly memorable prize day,” Olivia said
For Guild members involved in podcast production, the Guild’s popular Podcast Award, sponsored by Ben Eagle of Rural Pod Media, will return in 2025. Entries will open later in the year, so keep an eye out for updates.
Entries will also open later in the year for the Netherthorpe Communicator of the Year Award, won last year by Louise Impey.
“This award is presented to someone who is an exemplar of agricultural communications and as the last few years winners have shown, doesn’t have to be someone who is retired,” Olivia said.
The Guild’s PR Award, newly named in honour of Mike Evans and kindly sponsored by Amy Jackson, will again be open to Guild members working in PR. Additionally, the Hutchinsons Omnia Digital Farming Award, which recognises excellence in the reporting of precision farming technology, will also be open to entries.
The Caroline Drummond Award, which celebrates an individual who personifies Caroline’s passion and drive to advance more sustainable farming and effectively communicates that to their peers, will also be back again in 2025.
Continuing the sustainability theme, Olivia said the LEAF Public Engagement Award would recommence this year.
“The Guild’s awards programme wouldn’t be possible without our sponsors, and we are grateful to the many companies and organizations that support these initiatives,” she said.
Currently, two awards– the BGAJ Journalism Awards and the Photography Awards – are without sponsors. Anyone who is interested in sponsoring either award the should contact the Guild. Full details are on the awards page.
