Great stories about agricultural engineering are back in the spotlight with the opening of the Guild of Agricultural Journalists’ 2026 Institution of Agricultural Engineers Award for entries.

The IAgrE Award celebrates the role of engineering in farming, food and energy production. It carries a prize pot of £1500 thanks to generous sponsorship from the Institution of Agricultural Engineers, with the winner taking home £1000.

Engineering is at the heart of every innovation shaping modern agriculture and the wider land-based sector, says IAgrE Chief Executive Charles Nicklin.

“By supporting the British Guild of Agricultural Journalists Awards, we are not only championing high quality reporting, but also strengthening the vital connection between technology, producers and the public.

“This award helps us highlight the professionalism our sector depends on and recognises journalists who bring these important engineering stories to life.”

The judging panel for the 2026 IAgrE awards includes last year’s winner Farmers Guardian’s machinery reporter James Huyton and IAgrE President Mark Moore and Guild director Andy Newbold. They will be looking for engaging, original storytelling, which is valuable and relevant to the intended audience.

The closing date for entries is 10 May 2026, with the winners announced at the annual ‘Beer and Bangers’ Guild event at Cereals 2026 on 10 June 2026.
