Description
Kindly sponsored by the Institution of Agricultural Engineers, the IAgrE Award celebrates, rewards and recognises articles that highlight the vital role of engineering in meeting the requirements of modern food and energy production.
The Institution of Agricultural Engineers is the professional body for engineers, scientists, technologists and managers involved in the land based sector.
Entry Conditions
- Entries must be from a full member of British Guild of Agricultural Journalists
- Entries should have been published or broadcast in Great Britain between 1 March 2025 and 28 February 2026
- Entries should carry the byline of the entrant*
- Last year’s winner is not eligible to enter
- Entries are limited to one entry per Guild member
*Exceptions may be made where entrant can demonstrate the article / broadcast has been independently commissioned by the publisher and is not paid for by a commercial client for PR purposes
Prizes
- The winner will take the award and £1000 first prize.
- A runner up will receive £500.
- Awards will be presented at the Cereals Event on 10 June 2026
Judging criteria
The judges will be looking for entries that are accurate and original, and show value and relevance for the intended audience. The article, podcast or broadcast should be clear and engaging with strong storytelling at its heart. Judges will also be looking for initiative in research, interviews and evidence-gathering.
All entries must:
- Present a clear, well-reasoned piece that meets the theme brief
- Be supported by accurate facts, credible sources and organised research
- Demonstrate understanding of the subject and journalist integrity
- Communicate the topic in an accessible, balanced and objective way
- Avoid sensationalism or patronising tone
- Be well written, grammatically sound and journalistically robust
Entrants are advised to consider the quality and style of writing or delivery, content depth, clarity and overall impact, and the effective use of interviews, quotes, clips or supporting material.
