Marcomms specialist and guild member Eva Featherston has been awarded a Congress bursary from the Joe Watson Legacy Fund.
The bursary will cover Eva’s registration and travel to the IFAJ Congress in Osijek, Croatia, in September.
“Attending Congress in Croatia and receiving this bursary in Joe Watson’s memory is an honour,” says Eva.
“Congress will allow me to step outside my usual environment and understand agriculture from a much broader, international perspective. Experiencing Croatian agriculture, shaped by its climate, landscapes and diverse farming traditions, will give me valuable insight into how different systems adapt and thrive.
“I’m especially looking forward to connecting with communications specialists and fellow journalists, building relationships and learning from the expertise around me. Seeing the diversity of agriculture across countries and cultures is incredibly important, and I’m excited to bring those learnings back to the UK industry as I experience everything Congress has to offer.”
Eva follows in the footsteps of last year’s bursary winners, Katie Fallon and Craig Stephen, who attended Congress in Nairobi, Kenya. Craig described his experience as ‘nothing short of inspirational’, while for Katie it was ‘truly unforgettable’.
Established in memory of former BGAJ chairman Joe Watson, the Fund aims to encourage personal and professional development of agricultural journalists, support education and training in agricultural journalism and communication, and to improve public understanding of agriculture. The organisers of the 2014 IFAJ Congress, hosted in Aberdeen, structured the event to generate an ongoing legacy fund for Guild members. It was named in Joe’s memory following his death just months before the event.
