Johann Tasker winner of the British Guild of Agricultural Journalists’ Podcast of the Year Award 2025, presented his award by Ben Eagle, RuralPod Media, at the Guild’s Harvest Lunch.
The Farmers Weekly Podcast has won the British Guild of Agricultural Journalists Podcast of the Year award for 2025.
Sponsored by specialist rural podcast production agency RuralPod Media, the award celebrates podcasts produced by Guild members.
Ben Eagle, Head of Podcasts for RuralPod Media, led the judging panel with last year’s winner Jane Craigie and BBC Farming Today host Anna Hill. All three were particularly keen to find examples of innovative use of podcasting to help rural people and organisations tell their story.
The Farmers Weekly Podcast, produced and entered by Johann Tasker, was one of the few podcasts to illustrate the environment through non-verbal sound and atmosphere, and attempt more than a talking heads approach, Ben says.
With each podcast invited to enter a five-minute clip of an episode, Johann nominated a clip about Suffolk farmer Stephen Honeywood unveiling a memorial to the crew of an American Flying Fortress bomber that crashed on his farm 80 years ago.
“We enjoyed the opening of the piece in particular, which set the tone for the excerpt. The interview with an American family member worked well and the edit was nicely constructed,” Ben says. “It was definitely the strongest entry overall.”
Runner up was Kenneth Obayuwana with his AgriTech Founders Podcast.
“We liked the concept of this podcast as a whole and it has great potential for the future,” Ben says.
“The content was interesting, especially for those who might not be up to date in this particular sector, while speakers were particularly engaging to listen to. We all listened to more than five-minute segment suggested.”
The winner received a £200 prize, with the runner up taking home £100, plus a ticket to the Guild’s Harvest Lunch where the prizes were announced.
