Guild member Roger Moore has a criminal record in addition to his long term role as Managing Director of Ahead Ltd. He hastens to add that this is the result of his parallel writing work as a crime writer with four full-length novels already on his record – and his first book of short stories just released.
Roger explains, “Fourteen years ago, I realised a long standing ambition by starting to write fiction in my favourite format of crime novels, while continuing my full-time work as Managing Director of Ahead Ltd, my company specialising in PR and technical writing for the agribusiness, agriculture and food processing sectors.
“I have now completed four novels and just added a volume of short stories The books are set in the 1960s and feature Inspector John Keane, a police detective based in London, whose cases range from crimes in the London suburbs that were his patch, to a spell on secondment to Q5 – a shadowy part of the Met sitting in the grey area between regular police work and the country’s intelligence services.
“The latest book – short stories titled ‘Crimes from the Hidden City‘ – is set in the quiet streets of the suburbs where Keane spent most of his police career.
Roger notes, “Writing crime novels is a complete change from my PR work, with no deadline or client brief to guide my thoughts – but this makes it an interesting contrast as the two modes interact with each other to challenge writing skills.”
