Deadline: Friday 5th January

As preparations are well under way for the Guild’s 2024 Yearbook, edited by Guild chairman Johann Tasker, we ask all members to check that the details in their online profile are correct and up to date.

Apart from providing a record of Guild events, activities and opportunities, the much-valued Yearbook contains several directories, including a listing of all members, their contact details and professional interests, and a member listing by region to help find freelance journalists, photographers and PR professionals in a particular area.

There are also listings for farming and rural publications, broadcasts and websites with principle contacts (pages 22-34 in the 2023 edition); a section highlighting members involved in rural PR and marketing communications (pages 36-39); and one for full-time freelance photographers specialising in rural subjects (p40). Please check these directories and notify any changes to Johann Tasker who can also help with enquiries regarding other Yearbook content and advertising.

Check and update individual profiles

To ensure the accuracy of these directories, it is essential that all members check whether their details are still correct, either by leafing through the 2023 edition or ideally by logging in to the Guild website to check each section of their profile.

Each member profile comprises the following three sections;

Personal Details

This section contains the email address for Guild eAlerts and provides the opportunity to add a portrait photograph, which is then published in the online Farming Media Centre directory. Home addresses and contact information are held purely for administrative purposes and to mail out the Yearbook; they are not published anywhere.

Business Details

The information here is published in the Yearbook, so it is essential that it is up to date and accurate. There are also tick boxes giving the option to display telephone numbers and/or an email address in the online Farming Media Centre directory.

Farming Media Centre

This section enables an online search facility by member name or areas of interest and expertise, such as livestock, arable, farm politics, and so on, plus the type of work undertaken.

Journalist, Photographer and PR Consultant are obvious (just one, two or all three can be selected as appropriate); Expert is intended for Members and Friends of the Guild who are none of these but have particular professional expertise in the selected subjects.

Honorary and Retired members are automatically excluded from the Farming Media Centre but Members and Friends can also opt out if they wish by cancelling the tick box.

Logging in

If anyone has difficulty logging in to the Guild website, please ask membership subscriptions manager Peter Hill at subscriptions@gaj.org.uk for help.
