Farmers Guardian journalist Jane Carley has won the 2023 Omnia Precision Agronomy Award for an article looking at the use of field robots on farms across the UK.

Her article, titled Growing the robot workforce, looked at one of the first commercially adopted field robots, the technology’s development and how it is being used by growers.

Runner-up was Mike Abram for his article on the prospects for spraying using drones in the UK, which was published in Farmers Weekly.

The article looked at the regulatory hurdles being faced, as well as the potential benefits and challenges for using the technology on farms.

Presenting the awards at the Guild’s Harvest Lunch in October, Nick Strelczuk of award sponsor Hutchinson’s, said both articles were well-researched and well-written pieces that looked at exciting developments being made in precision farming technologies
