Mark Allen is a forward-thinking, inclusive media company celebrating yet another record year of success, and we’re excited to be looking for a Deputy Livestock Editor to join the Farmers Weekly team.

To give you an idea of how this role would look and feel, here are some of the rewarding things you can expect to do:

If you are passionate about livestock farming, with a good nose for a story, once a week you’ll have the opportunity to be out on farms or at industry events conducting interviews. Day-to-day you will be required to assist the Livestock editor with planning and editing copy.

There will also be ample opportunity to attend industry events and shows, both in the UK and abroad.

You will need to enjoy a fast-paced environment, working across different platforms including web, print and social media, as well as be confident in helping to brainstorm ideas for events and commercial projects and working alongside our events team to make these happen.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Editing copy
  • Developing story ideas
  • Brainstorming ideas for events and commercial projects
  • Attending industry events and farm visits
  • Producing content for web and print
  • Producing content for our social media platforms.

Skills required:

  • Journalism/publishing experience preferable
  • Ability to write news and features content
  • Good technical knowledge of the livestock sector
  • Driving licence
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Organised
  • Motivated

How are we working at the moment… 

We have a hybrid working in place, where we are working in the office 2 days a week (if you want to work from the office for more than 2 days you are most welcome) and have the opportunity to work 3 days remotely. We also welcome remote-working applications
