Just Farmers is seeking a media manager to join its team in a freelance capacity. This remote role (with some travel required) involves working two days a week (16 hours), with a daily rate of £225 or an equivalent hourly rate.

Just Farmers is a Community Interest Company dedicated to providing free media education to farmers and growers across the UK. It also works to connect journalists with independent and authentic voices from across British agriculture.

At its core, the organisation focuses on improving communication, building skills and confidence, bridging divisions, and fostering collaboration to drive positive change at the grassroots level and beyond.

It is committed to remaining impartial, balanced, and representative of a diverse range of views, without aligning itself with any single political or campaigning group.

Job description:

In this role, the media manager will play a key part in supporting Just Farmers’ media relations work.

Responsibilities include using existing skills and contacts to connect farmers with journalists, distributing news briefings, responding to media enquiries as they arise, and strengthening the organisation’s online presence through its website and social media platforms.

The position offers a high degree of flexibility and the opportunity to shape its impact – making it very much a “you get out what you put in” role – with scope to grow alongside the organisation as its ambitions expand.

The successful candidate will also gain access to a broad and diverse network of contacts across both the media and agricultural sectors, making this an excellent opportunity for professional development and engagement within these industries.

About the candidate:

You will be enthusiastic, self-motivated and full of creative ideas!

As this role will be largely working from home, you will be self-motivated, organised and efficient with great attention to detail. A strong communicator with good interpersonal skills, you must be willing to pick up the phone and talk to people (not just firing off emails).

At the heart of Just Farmers is a small team of two, working with some fantastic external freelancers, sponsors and suppliers, as well as the friendliest farmers in British agriculture. A down to earth attitude to life and a good sense of humour are essential. Kindness, tolerance and inclusivity are cornerstones of what we do.

Key duties would include:

  • Monitoring the Just Farmers website, responding to media requests and liaising with members of the media who register with us.
  • Tracking and logging Media Connections, Coverage and Farmer CPD within our network of 156 farmers and growers.
  • Managing Just Farmers’ presence across social media; developing social media campaigns (where needed); increasing brand awareness and customer engagement; creating captivating content for Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn; filming and editing reels; community management of accounts; designing content via Canva
  • Responding quickly to the national news agenda; finding stories within our farmer base; liaising with the media; pitching stories; editing and designing (using Canva) media briefings written by the CEO and sending briefings out to registered users; maintaining and updating media mailing lists
  • Writing web copy for our news blog on the Just Farmers website
  • Designing any marketing collateral (flyers, banners) via Canva
  • Supporting the Founder and CEO in driving forward the Just Farmers’ vision and mission.

Required skills:

  • Demonstratable experience any (or all) of the following: journalism, factual storytelling, public relations, marketing
  • Solid experience in social media management; ability to film and edit reels, write copy and deliver engaging content for Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn
  • A good knowledge of Canva
  • Strong grasp of Excel and how to analyse data using formulas
  • You must be eligible to live and work in the UK

Desired skills:

  • Experience of, or at least demonstratable interest in, farming and rural affairs
  • Knowledge of media law
  • A full, clean UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle

How to apply: Send your CV, a covering letter and a one minute video of yourself about what you would bring to this role to emily@justfarmers.org by Friday 3rd July.
